Rachel Woodyatt Rossi is an American teacher who has lived in Rome for many years. She and her Italian husband raised their two daughters bilingually. They attended both international and Italian schools and graduated from Rome's Università La Sapienza. Being fluent in two languages has been a tremendous asset for them in their careers; one is a psychologist in New York and the other an architect in Rome.
Rachel is a New Yorker and visits there often, enjoying all the exciting cultural events the city can offer. She enjoys travelling and has visited many regions of Italy, as well as European capitals. She spends many weekends in Assisi, her husband's hometown. She is very familiar with this beautiful Franciscan town, its medieval art and age-old traditions. Rachel has taught in several international schools in Rome including Marymount International School. She left the school in June 2007 to start up her own language center, The Discovery Learning Center. The purpose of the center is to offer English enrichment classes , especially to bilingual students. Students study language through rich content areas such as science and history. After many years of teaching about Rome, Rachel has developed a deep knowledge of the city and its culture which she shares with her students, using inquiry based learning. Inquiry based learning implies the need or desire to know, not so much to have "the right answer" as to develop problem solving skills which help find the appropriate resolutions to questions and issues.
The Discovery Learning Center hopes to fill a recognized need for English-speaking bilingual students to perfect their language skills to a high standard of written and spoken fluency. The Discovery Learning Center is conveniently located in Via Morgagni near the university and the Policlinico stop on the Metro B. It is served by many bus lines as well.
