A Cross-Cultural Coach, Elizabeth Abbot helps expats around the world live the ultimate adventure – crossing cultures to an enhanced personal and professional life. American by birth and Italian by choice, Elizabeth has lived in Rome, Italy for over 25 years with her Italian husband, their two bi-lingual, third-cultural children and an international mix of friends and colleagues. She arrived in Rome just after college for a year to teach at an international high school and experienced culture shock. After staying another six months, she never left. Along the way, she developed an unfailing curiosity into the mystery of cross-cultural relations and a sense of balance between her two cultures which she shares with clients. She came to Cross-Cultural Coaching as an outreach of Cross-Cultural Training. Life and work abroad never fit neatly into what you expected before you left home. As a coach Elizabeth helps people define what they want to gain personally and professionally from the unique opportunities of life and work abroad, and design a path to get there. She listens, gives feedback, and supports the process of shifting perspectives and suspending judgment along the way. She first encountered cross-cultural communications and held her first cross-cultural training sessions while working for a global cultural exchange organization as Director for the Council on International Educational Exchange – Italy, sending Italian university and high school students on work and study programs abroad. In addition to CIEE she has worked for several international development organizations and international educational institutions. She has an undergraduate degree in English from Williams College (USA) and a Masters of Science in Management from Boston University (Rome-based Program). She is currently pursuing certification as a Professional Coach through the International Coach Academy and is a member of the Society of Intercultural Education Training and Research (SIETAR). She is a also an active member of the American Women’s Association of Rome. Passionate about helping people abroad achieve their potential through cultural intelligence, she also trains, counsels, speaks and conducts orientations for organizations, associations, conferences and study abroad centers. She can provide country-specific orientations, training and consulting on Doing Business in Italy and Living the Italian Life-style. In addition, she regularly writes on cross-cultural topics for online and print publications.
