Hello All and congrats to new and expectant moms! Does anyone know where in Rome I can find washable pre-folded diapers for a newborn. I checked Chicco (Portuense) and Chicogna (Marconi) but they didn't know what I was talking about. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

Sim

Hi there,

If no-one knows a place locally there is a website called http://www.newbabyberry.com which stocks washable nappies that might be the sort you are looking for. It is based near Florence. I've ordered things from them before and found them very efficient.

Hope this helps.

Hi all,
when i was living in the uk i made myself feel a little less guilty about using disposables as i brought the most biodegradable ones i could find-i think they were bamboo.or something. anyway, i can onkly find pampers and i just cannot, will not use them anymore. i throw away sooooo many a day.
does anyone know about real nappies in rome? anyone interested in forming a real nappy network where we can pass down/up small big sizes that we dont use anymore?
this could be good....

There are disposables that are biodegradable (up to 80%) available through the Canestro stores, if you order many of the same size (viale Gorizia or via San Francesco a Ripa) There is also a good brand of them available at the Citta dell'altro Economia in testaccio. There they have lots of good organic cotton items as well as a whole section of eco-friendly baby items and more. Worth checking out.

Unfortunately, after much research in local stores and websites, my husband and I were forced to order our nappies from the UK - organic, re-usable bamboo. Just seems this type of thing isn't available here - nor are there nappy services.

Good luck!

There is a lovely store in the Prati Fiscali area called Gusto Ecologico (also known with their acronym as Geco, that has a great selection of cotton nappies. You can find their address and phone number and yes, a map, at http://www.gustoecologico.it
You could also look up Poppolini (brand name) for a store locator, or go to http://www.bellicomeilsole.it for catalog shopping.

I'd be interested in this! I would be particularly interested in a cloth-nappy seminar where we get to see all the different kinds and how to use them.

Having just shipped in a load of size ones from UK would most definitely be interested in a washable nappy scheme! Have heard great reports and the longevity of a good washable nappy means (if you can be sensible about realising it is totally possible to make a used nappy 100% hygenic for another child!) they could easily be recirculated to save the hassle of shipping in brands not available here in Italy for example! I'd also be interested to meet up with a Mum's group if anyone knows of one? My first child is nearly 11 and the second is due on December 10th and would be good to chat with expectant mums or to find a yoga/ pilates/ labour techniques class etc... or anyone who'd like to be an excersize partner pre and post partum!
