Just wondering whether anyone can advise me on the best Italian laundry detergent for washing cloth nappies?

I have bumgenius cloth nappies that I really want to keep using here in Rome, but I'm having trouble finding additive free washing detergent (especially since my Italian isn't great).

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me! :)

I wish I could help you but we actually managed to ruin our bumgenius nappies somehow - probably by washing them in the wrong detergent. We just use whatever is cheap at the supermarket - supermarket brand or dash or whatever. We wash the BGs along with our other cloth nappies (cotton prefolds and bummis covers) in a third the recommended amount of detergent- the prefolds are still going strong 18 months in and so are the covers but the bumgeniuses have lost all waterproofing.

They're so delicate and you can't get all those US washing powders here. I definitely prefer the plain cotton prefolds - you can wash them any way you want.

I use the Bum Genius and wash with Bio Baby detergent. I'm not sure if its additive free but I think it is better than anything else out there. I have been using them for 6 months and the absorbancy is still good, no leaking which is the concern with using regular detergent. However the washing machine here has ruined the velcro on a few of my diapers. Oh well...good luck

I can recommend Almacabio detergent. It's ecologically sound and gentle on the nappies. We also use Almacabio sbiancante (basically to sanitize and whiten) with the nappies as well. This combo works a charm. (at 60 degrees). You'll find it at bio food stores (naturasi' or Citta' dell'altra Economia)
We use Totsbots bamboo nappies with Imse Vimse covers and these products have continued to work well.
