Our toddler has a nasty yeasty diaper rash. Husband took her to the paediatrician yesterday who prescribed mercurachrome on her butt twice a day (yes the bright red stuff :o ) plus zinc diaper cream and washing with a low Ph gel in the bidet.

Anyway she now has a bright red butt from the mercurachrome. I looked on the internet and didn't see this mentioned anywhere as a treatment for candida. Is this completely off the wall or is this a weird Italian thiing? I just feel like maybe she should have given us some anti-yeast cream or something. Does anyone know anything about this?

It sounds unusual. As far as I remember they usually prescribe Canestan cream (easily bought at the chemist) and tell you to leave the nappy off as much as possible. Once the yeast infection has gone Weleda do a brilliant cream called 'Crema protettiva alla Calendula' which is fantastic at calming irritated skin (and totally natural).

Hope this helps

Ok I'll go to the chemist tomorrow and try to get some Canestan cream OTC. I read on the internet that mercurochrome is no longer sold in the US as it contains mercury.

I REALLY need to change pediatricians. :(

We had the same problem and used the mercurachrome. It is odd but it finally worked!
