Hi ladies! We are trying to go to Rome for July. We've never been to Rome so I need help here. I have 3 kids (6 yo, 3 yo and 7 month old). DH will be with us 75% of the time (25% in USA). I'd like to live near everything that's safe with great restaurants and markets and of course culture. Please recommend neighborhoods!!! Also, how can I find programs for my 6 yo or 3 yo? Maybe art, ballet, music, or Italian? I'm sure I'll have many more questions, but this is my starting point. Many thanks in advance!

Are you going to be here only for July? Just be aware that most things completely close down during August (including things like daycares) and towards the end of July the city starts getting pretty quiet already. Basically a lot of kids are sent to be with the nonni at the beach or in the countryside during the summer.

Can you be a bit more specific re your budget and the kind of areas you'd like to be in? Also what's important to you? I imagine with 3 kids you'd probably like a place with an elevator so that rules out a lot of the historical center for example. Anyway rome is big so you need to tell us that kinds of areas appeal to you and what's important to you.

Thx for responding!

My interest in children's activities is not that important. I know Italy pretty much shuts down for vacation. As for budget, it's not an issue. I'd like something very comfortable (elevator, doorman, washer/dryer, hi speed internet) in an area that's safe to stroll around. My main objective is to immerse ourselves in Italian culture. I need to be near good food markets (hopefully organic). We love to eat out a lot as a family, so a variety of restaurants/ cafes/ pizzarias are important. We like to walk everywhere and will occassionally rent a car to visit other areas of Italy. Any neighborhoods come to mind?

Hi

We are also moving to Rome in June/July with DH's work, probably for 2 to 3 years. I have a 3 yr old daughter and will be putting her into some kind of daily education as that's what she does here.

Really excited about it, but quite nervous too as it's such a big step, particularly leaving friends and family. I am delighted to have found this website and hope I can make some friends before I get out there.

We are looking at the South West area of Rome, which is near to DH work.

Look forward to chatting with you all.

Debbie :)

Hi Debbie,

I live in the South West part of Rome. Monteverde Nuovo is a very nice area to live in. Via Ussani, Via Gandiglio and nearby streets are very quiet and with very beautiful apartments.

I have a 17-months-old baby and will be happy to meet you once you arrive in Rome.

If there is anything I can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Cheers,
Monica

Will be sure to send any questions your way!
